Common questions
Why 20 MB?
Many chat apps reject large files. Split cuts every part to under 20 MB so a long video can be sent in WhatsApp, iMessage, or Telegram as a set of parts.
Split says my clip is already under 20 MB
Then it does not need cutting. Send the original as it is.
A part is still over 20 MB, or Split says the video is too heavy
Split first tries a shorter piece, then recompresses if it has to. If even a very short slice goes over 20 MB, share a lower quality copy of the video from Photos, then split that copy.
Where are my parts in Photos?
Split saves into an album named after the Name field, with Split in front. Type Park walk and you get the album Split Park walk, with files like Split-Park-walk-part-1.mp4. Open Albums in Photos, or search Photos for Split. Recents also lists them, because Apple shows every new save there.
If the parts look backwards, flip Part order in album in Settings, or open the album, tap Sort, and choose Newest First.
Split cannot make an album
Split needs Full Access to Photos to create the named album. With Limited access, Apple only lets Split save into Recents, and the files still get the Split name so you can search for them. Change this in iOS Settings, or tap Open iOS Settings in Split's Settings. Without any Photos access you can still cut a video and share the parts from the app.
How do I send the parts?
Tap Share the parts in Split, or open the album in Photos and send the parts together, from the top of the album. If an app offers File or Video, pick File. Some chat apps take a few seconds to finish a batch, so send the parts in one go, then wait.
Can Split cut audio files?
Yes. Tap Audio and pick a file. Audio parts cannot go into a Photos album, so you share them to Files or any app you want. They still get the Split name.
How does Join work?
Tap Join at the top, then add two or more videos, or two or more audio files. Drag the handle to change the order and tap the minus to drop a clip. Tap Join and leave the app open. Matching clips join as a copy, and mixed sizes get black bars, not a crop. The joined file can be over 20 MB; use Split if you need parts.
What is Bookmark every 10 parts?
When a split makes 11 or more parts, Split can also save a still after parts 10, 20, 30 and so on, so you keep your place when you send batches. The stills are photos, not videos, so Join skips them.
Split warns about storage
Split needs free space for its working copy and the parts. Free up space in iOS Settings, General, iPhone Storage, then try again. Split clears its working files when you pick another file or reopen the app, and Settings, Storage lets you delete unused ones.
